How to read your Lo Shu Grid

Three things to look at when interpreting your grid:

  1. Which numbers appear and how often. Each repetition amplifies that energy in your nature.
  2. Which numbers are missing. These are not weaknesses — they're invitations to develop areas that don't come automatically.
  3. Energy lines (arrows). Three filled positions in a row, column, or diagonal form an "arrow" — a strength line — that carries a specific theme.

Missing numbers and what they mean

  • Missing 1 — initiative and self-motivation may need deliberate practice
  • Missing 2 — sensitivity and intuition take work to access
  • Missing 3 — self-expression and creativity feel less natural
  • Missing 4 — patience and structure require effort
  • Missing 5 — change and freedom feel scary, not exciting
  • Missing 6 — domestic and family roles need learning
  • Missing 7 — introspection and spirituality require effort to engage
  • Missing 8 — material ambition and discipline don't come instinctively
  • Missing 9 — broad humanitarian or completion-of-cycles themes need development

Repeating numbers and what they mean

The same number appearing multiple times in your grid intensifies that energy:

  • Once — present, balanced
  • Twice (amplified) — pronounced trait
  • Three times (dominant) — defining characteristic
  • Four or more (overload) — the trait taken too far; may benefit from softening

The energy lines (arrows)

When three positions in a row, column, or diagonal are all filled, you have a strength arrow in that area:

  • 4-9-2 (top row) — Arrow of Planning & Vision
  • 3-5-7 (middle row) — Arrow of Will & Determination
  • 8-1-6 (bottom row) — Arrow of Compassion
  • 4-3-8 (left column) — Arrow of Memory
  • 9-5-1 (middle column) — Arrow of Action
  • 2-7-6 (right column) — Arrow of Emotion
  • 4-5-6 (diagonal) — Arrow of Practical Wisdom
  • 2-5-8 (diagonal) — Arrow of Spirituality
